After lukewarm LTE-M results, AT&T turns to NB-IoT after all

After expressing little interest in NB-IoT, AT&T has now announced that it will be adopting the licensed low power WAN technology in the US and Mexico. It plans to launch the service early in 2019 in the US, and later in the year for its southern neighbor. It comes as the US becomes one of the most crowded markets for licensed LPWAN offerings. Verizon was an early advocate of both LTE-M and NB-IoT, and T-Mobile (with its Deutsche Telekom heritage) was always on board the NB-IoT hype train. Even fourth-placed Sprint announced support for NB-IoT, but only when customers request, and satellite TV provider Dish has announced a $1bn plan to build an IoT network – after getting into trouble…
